Extrapolation 101, Please Be Seated
Hi there Fun-folks, and welcome to extrapolation 101. In today’s class we’ll take a Rashomon style look at the different parts of the same elephant described by blind men, and see if we can somehow tie it them all together.
1st, on the national news lately there have been stories of how someone of the evil persuasion can via the use of blue tooth or other means capture control of your car if it’s one of the new internet connected variety.
2nd, on the local (Los Angeles) front, there was yet another carjacker today who was followed by helicopter to the inevitable finish where the perp was taken away after the chase reached the predictible end.
3rd, an hour after the chase ended on that same t.v. I watched a commercial for some model or other of a new Subaru that was shown taking part in one of those controlled crash test where the car’s built in radar sensor having noted an impending crash into a wall ahead sends a signal to an on-board brain which applied the brakes and the car came to a full and safe stop entirely by itself.
So, with a little Venn Diagram overlapping we become aware of a potential issue that may show up in our not that distant future wherein an outside source may perhaps take action to override the controls of our car and make it either come to an unwanted stop or, more of an ominous alternative, have the brakes go into the fail mode and the steering makes some interesting decisions about handling the over the side of the cliff route for us.
But, there’s yet at least one other potential issue unearthed by using those same factoids. As the story of your interconnected car that’s well wired into the grid also pointed out, your every stop location and duration intuited by data mining is noted along with enough information on your driving habits to cheer up the glummest insurance salesperson.
So, if it should show up on your record that you’ve often stopped near the residence or business that for one reason or another is a “Person or place of interest”, one fine day your car could come to a mysterious stop anytime the local gendarme should want to quiz you a bit.

Feel free to ignore any ads that are shown below this advisory, I don’t get to choose them and even more sadly, I don’t make a penny off any of them, so in the holy name of capitalism I rebuke and don’t endorse or support any of them, unless of course they’re made of funny stuff…..
P.S., check back for occasional updates and rewrites….
