Come Be Screwed

Because of the clear and present danger that’s part of living here in the fatherland of litigation, I can’t mention the name of the particular television network I’m referring to in the subject line, but perhaps some of you will intuit it from a clue hidden in that same subject line: Come Be Screwed.

The reason for all of the aggravation I had to go through today is the result of falling for those age old simple tricks of misdirection, omission, and implied but never fully clarified promises. This last technique is similar to the one used by car dealers who will ask “If I can put you in this car for $xxxx.xx down and $xxx.xx a month, will you buy it today?”. Parse that one a bit and you’ll see that the salesperson never actually said he could deliver that car for those amounts, but you’ve flipped a switch in your head and created an implicit agreement to buy that car of theirs.

But I digress…

I signed on to pay for this particular program that would give me, as they said in the ads for it, access to my favorite programs, including back episodes. Their words….

What was omitted was that in return for my “less than” $6.00 a month I would get a plethora of commercials with every episode, commercials that you can’t speed through or skip past, and that there was a finite limit to how far back I could go in finding those episodes. Whereas $6.00 is not the sort of amount that would be a deal breaker, it’s certainly a bite in the ass to have to pay that amount to watch the very same commercials and tv show episodes that are broadcast for free.

Wait, there’s more….

There are only a few on the air t.v. programs that I really enjoy watching (no cable at home, read this to understand why) because of their writing and acting, two for example would be “Mom” and “Person Of Interest”, not that I’m saying that these shows are on the network referred to above, even though they are. On those days that I’m not working on location and happen to be at home I’ll usually try to catch these shows, so the idea of being able to go back and watch the pilot and those previous season’s missed episodes that I never was able to watch really lured me in. And by getting this service and thereby get an understanding of how the characters on those shows evolved to be who they are now sounded like a fine solution, a bonus if you will.

I’m Interested Because I’m An Aries?

Even after working its little electrons off for such a long time, our Mars Curiosity Rover continues to sent back detailed reports on what it has encountered while exploring the surface of Mars.

Not a Corvette, but then what is?

The latest report from this little Rover that could has given us new data, including that it found that there’s been a tenfold increase in methane gas in the atmosphere of Mars in the past year.

NASA had this to say about Mars: “It’s living and breathing and giving off little spurts of methane…”.

Sorry, that second burrito was a mistake!

It’s important for you to know that considering how our economy is doing now, they could have saved a ton of money and ended up with the same results just by having it follow along closely behind me.

The Rain In L.A. Goes Mainly In The Bay

Well, it has finally rained big time in Los Angeles, and the results can be summed up like this:

1. Streets are flooded with water and full of drivers that don’t know how to drive in the rain, i.e. jammed up,

2. Almost all of the rain water lands and then runs directly down the sewer system to end up in the Pacific Ocean, where you’ll notice that there is no water shortage.

A few salient points to consider:

1. There is no real water shortage in the Los Angeles area! What there is, actually, is a people surplus. Residents seem to forget that this is an artificially enhanced desert that has water stolen from provided by the central part of the state which was then funneled down to them, and that all of our imposed water saving laws and procedures will only serve to allow even more people to move here buying overpriced property and thereby causing yet another water shortage. A quick crash course in how it happened? Watch Roman Polanski’s epic “Chinatown”, where Jack Nicholson spells it out for you.

2. The rain that flows so quickly into the sewer system never had a chance in hell of getting into the underground water table, a quick look around the city will show you that it’s nearly completely covered with streets, freeways, buildings, sidewalks, parking lots, and that the few green areas of lawns and golf courses have been so pounded down with heavy machinery during the construction phase of all those buildings and the soil is compressed so much that the water can only briefly pool up on top while waiting to be routed to the aforementioned sewers.
