No More Russian Winters, Hoorah!
I’ve decided to start publishing some of my favorite jokes on this site from time to time, this first one is courtesy of my late maternal grandmother.
I have a family that is full of funny people, some of whom are intentionally funny, some not so much. To the best of my moth-hole filled memory, in as much of her life as I knew of my grandmother only told one joke and that one can be found here below the map.
One day when I was about 12 years old, she told me how she grew up in a little village that was somewhat like “Anatevka”, the one in “Fiddler on the roof”. It was +/- on the border between Poland and what was at the time was called Russia but is now, at least until Russia takes it back again, Ukraine. The border had shifted several times during her youth, and the very last time she experienced such a transition was just before she and my grandfather decided to make a break for the promised land, which at that time was called Canada.
The way she digressed as she told the story, it took her what seemed to be almost an hour to get to the punch line, so I’ll shorten it up a bit.
One terrible winter the border line had once again shifted and she and her family now lived in Poland. “We ran out in the snow and celebrated with song and dance and we screamed out loud, we were all so happy that we wouldn’t have to have to survive another Russian winter.”
O.K., I suppose that it was a little funnier to hear it with her accent and watch all that body language what with all that underarm flapping, I guess you had to be there.
O.K., here’s a weak attempt to make up for the previous joke:
What’s the difference between Beer Nuts and Deer Nuts? Beer nuts go for $1.50 a bag, Deer nuts can usually be found under a buck.

The Donald Gets Scalped?
In yet another a news release, Donald Trump has announced he’s closing two of his casinos in New Jersey, it wasn’t all that difficult to figure out why this happened.
His idea of placing a thick rug of Astroturf © on those building tops turned out to be not quite as much of a draw he thought it would be for potential high rent paying tenants.

Meg Whitman’s Gone, Paypal’s Still Into Thievery
In what seemed like it was going to be just another internet transaction, I clicked on the “Buy It Now” link on a piece of audio recording equipment that I found on eBay last night.
I’ve been an eBay customer (both a buyer and seller) since December of 1998 with over 1,400 all positive feedbacks from having been involved with even more auctions than that, so I thought I knew the ropes.
Sadly, Paypal has restrung the ropes into a noose to continue the slide that eBay and Paypal have been on since Meg Whitman took control and monetized the very life out of what used to be a fun to go to, a people oriented site.
All I did was click on a second link that seemed like it was going to be just an acknowledgment of my having placed a buy it now order, a moment later the reply page thanked me for my purchase, completely leaping over the normal trip to Paypal to sign in, where I could choose the payment method and agree to the purchase.
I can understand exactly where this new practice of theirs is coming from, Paypal wants all purchases on eBay (and probably other places they deal with) to be of the type of transaction that would have the money deducted directly out of the buyers checking account. This methodology is not one that I have used in the past, I have always chosen to have the purchase funded from my Paypal listed credit card so I could receive frequent flyer miles, unfortunately for them this is a choice that would have caused Paypal to pay a percentage as a credit card fee and not have instant access to my funds.
Recently, Paypal had experimented with an interim process wherein they made the link to change the funding source nearly invisible, this caused me to miss the option to change the funding source on a purchase. After accidentally doing this and then calling in on a special phone number given only to eBay heavy duty patrons, I found that they consider that once a transaction is done, it’s done and irreversible, i.e., they kept the money taken from my checking account, and sounded upset that I was upset and wanted to change the purchase to my credit card.
So, I hope this will serve as a heads up to people that plan to do business on the internet (a.k.a. eBay) and use Paypal, which it should be known is a wholly owned subsidiary of eBay, I have a feeling they will have many more tricks up their collective sleeves in the near future, and are just waiting for the chance to bump their customers past the point of no return on their slippery slope.
