Food shortage, not?

There seems to be a lot of talk about the “food shortage” in the media, so I went over to my local food for less to research this.

The shelves were still quite full, with piles of food products filling every available space. The only shortage I noticed was a lack of shoppers, most likely driven by a lack of money, which probably was caused by a lack of decent paying work.

So the solution? Send the food to the countries that we’re bankrolling by outsourcing our jobs to, and to the countries that we’re bombing back into the dark ages. Money seems to flow there anyway, the food should be allowed to follow to complete the circle.

As for the oil situation, perhaps reducing the amount of tobacco products shipped to the oil producing folks to raise their costs will demonstrate that jacked up prices can cut both ways. Smoke that Ahab!

However, the weak link is that those same fine people will only raise the amount per barrel of oil to pay the higher cost for their habit, plus adding a markup to gouge us just one more time.

I was too conservative (easy now, those who know me) in my prediction made last year that we would be paying over $4.00 per gallon by the end of 2008.  Since the price of regular gas is now at or over $4.35 a gallon around the Los Angeles area, my new and improved wild guess is that we’ll be paying (on average) more than $5.00 per gallon beforer Thanksgiving, maybe over $6.00 by the start of 2009.

Remember you read it here, keep your fingers crossed that I’m not being too conservative again.

That sentence makes me want to puke, but maybe I’ll keep it in my mouth until the tank is filled up.
